Love Poems

Love's Tempest

How do you interpret ,where do you begin?

To try and explain the temptation of original sin

My head is bursting and distracted

Like the colors of a rainbow refracted

Arched in a cloudless,rainless sky

That seeks no answers or questions why

But shines on down in beauty and in grace

To bathe the delicate contours of your face.

This storm is blowing into a gale

My soul is surging without a sail

My heart is floating across these heavy seas

To raise me up from off my knees

How is it possible for love to be so exotic ?

A tangled passion, breathlessly quixotic

Capable of sucking oxygen from fire

To forge from steel, diamonds and sapphires

So hold me tight,

Never let me go,

Embrace me forever

Through the ebb and flow

Be my map, my compass

My discovery

On this voyage

Across the tempestuous sea

Be my angel ,my guiding light

And cast the doubts and shadows

From my darkest nights .

The Road

She picked me up in her pick up truck

What else could she do?

Took me for a ride down a red dirt road,

To breathe in Big Sur’s chromosomes,

Under the shadow of behemoth trees,

Fashioned by a thousand years,

Of rolling waves and a Pacific breeze.

She said…

This is a place to lose yourself,

Or so I’ve been told,

But that all depends of course,

If you’ve yet been found,

I came here to lose some load,

To take your hand and walk by your side,

To take in full measure, those dreamy eyes,

To weigh up the gravity of this love,

Between the earth, the stars and shifting skies.

I’ve left behind the miles of pain,

That echo to false truths and missing friends,

A box of memories wrapped in cellophane,

The letters, I never found the time to send.

She said,

Well, are you ready for a big and wild adventure?

There’s no roadmap or swanky hotel rooms,

No promises or contracts in a City Hall,

No vases with some fancy blooms,

Just an empty highway,

And a warm bed every night,

Of that you can be sure.

Everything I’ve got is yours,

My heart, my soul, my mandolin,

A hundred tea bags and an orange tree,

A fragrant herb garden, my last bottle of gin.

We started out with one beginning,

With no end in mind,

Two wandering troubadours,

With dreams of a similar kind,

There’s no need to be afraid,

Life is full of beautiful uncertainty,

And when I can hold your hand every night,

And feel you, breathing next to me

I’ll know that at last, we will, be free.
